STUDENT RELATED POLICIES

The school provides a myriad of support services and opportunities including; student orientation, virtual student meetings, virtual educational coaching, health referral services, student consultative project facilitation, leadership training and development, peer tutoring, coaching and mentoring, entrepreneurial experiences, student development seminars including study skills and time management, training and development, wellness, student and career counseling and scholarship incentives. Leadership Development activities are managed by Virtual Student Leaders (VSL) and facilitated by Virtual Teacher Assistants (VTA). Following are student related policies and support services:

POLICIES

Accidental Injury Insurance Coverage

Students are required to have accidental insurance coverage to participate in field trips and other school activities/events.

Assessment

Students will be required to complete a variety of assignments across the curriculum. Students are required to take tests and examinations according to schedule. Cheating, including plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in an grade “F”. Grades for these assignments will be determined based on the following grading scale:

Career Guidance and Development

At the beginning of grade 10, students participate in educational guidance and development seminars towards decision making for future careers. Participation in goal setting and skills training activities are required with the assistance of a professional school guidance counselor and with the use of technology aides and additional services. Students also participate in career exploration activities through their engagement in community service projects, experiential learning activities, employment apprenticeship placement engagements and internships; and attendance at local and virtual international career and employment fairs.

Discipline

All students have the right to receive a quality education and to benefit from the instructional arrangements made to facilitate the same. All students must conduct themselves in a respectful manner at all times. No obscene or offensive language is allowed. Additionally students must respect the rights of their peers to access a quality education; subsequently any behavior that adversely affect students ability to receive maximum benefits from educational opportunities, will not be tolerated.

Field Trips and Group Projects

Students are required to participate in field trips and group projects to meet course requirements. Ebenezer College Virtual Smart School does not assume any responsibility for students’ personal property under any circumstance. Students are advised to be in possession of and protect their belongings at all times; and in particular during group interventions. Additionally, students who do not adhere to school rules during school activities are subject to dismissal.

Health and Wellness

Health education and wellness is included in the general core of the secondary school’s programme through American Christian Education. However, students indicating the need for personal health care receive referrals in consultation with parents or guardians. For group collaboration and field trip purposes, students are required to meet health regulations and accidental injury insurance standards for school participation.

Home School Schedules

Students are expected to write individual annual, term, month, weekly and daily goals in consultation with the relevant school personnel. Students are required to allocate at least five hours per day on-curriculum-task (oct)

Individualized Programme of Study

Each student devises an individualized programme of study in consultation with their virtual education facilitator and parents or guardians. The programme of study may be revised to facilitate students’ interests and needs.

Insurance

Students must provide proof of accidental insurance coverage or purchase the same through Ebenezer’s Student Accidental Insurance Plan (SAIP)

Immunization

All students must meet immunization standards for secondary school participation.

Student Clubs and Associations

Smart School students have opportunities to participate in school related, local, national and international student clubs. The Student Leadership President, who is appointed by the College’s Board, has the over site of all student club activities. The Virtual Student Life Director (VSLD) is the institutional administrative manager of student life. Currently the student clubs are:

Student Publication: Students are provided with the opportunity to be mentored by a news writer to facilitate the publication of the student news electronic publication. The publication serves as a bi-weekly information source for students.

Student ID Cards

Students will be provided with an identification card. Students may collect cards at the school’s administrative office. Oversees students’ identification cards will be mailed to their postal addresses. Students pay a onetime ID fee of $25.00 (twenty-five dollars). Once reported lost or stolen ID’s can be replaced at the cost of $25.00 (twenty-five dollars). Students must present their ID’s during field trips and other events and to access selected student services as required. Students are not allowed to use ID’s if they are not in good standing with the school and may be requested to submit them to the school’s administration

Student Transcripts

Students may access their academic records online utilizing a record access password provided by the school. Students desirous of having an official transcript must complete a transcript request form online and then submit the completed form electronically. All transcripts are forwarded electronically to the requested designation.

Tuition And Fees

Tuition and fees, once paid, are non- refundable. Students are required to pay the term fees prior to the start of each term. Payment schedule dates are outlined in the school’s calendar.

Virtual New Student Orientation and General Student Meetings

The first virtual new student orientation session is held at the beginning of every new school term and continues throughout the first term with the assistance of a VSL and VTA. In addition all students must attend virtual general student meetings.

Students who do not adhere to the school’s policies will be subject to dismissal.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The number of credits and selected core subjects are decided in keeping with high school graduation requirements in various jurisdictions. Students must earn a minimum “C” grade in all courses, and an overall minimum grade point average of 2.00 and must earn at minimum a satisfactory rating in all aspects of the programme.

Generally, students may earn one of the following certificates or diplomas: (1) General Education High School Diploma; (2) General Education Junior High School Diploma with Specialty Cognate; (3) General Education Senior High School Diploma; (4) General Education High School Diploma – Specialty Cognate; and (5) General Education High School Diploma – College Preparation.
